I could get used to sunrises like this. I was up early this morning and ready for day 2 of Alt Summit. Today started off with design camps and I chose the brush lettering one. It was taught by Bianca Mascorro. I have a long way to go but it was really fun. It seemed the more I worked on it, the worse I got. I'll work on it some more when I'm not trying so hard.
I then got to attend a session on planning in-person events led by Melissa Bahen of Lulu the Baker and Alix Adams of A Ruffled Life. How cool would it be to have a year of creative habits meet up or workshop? Maybe I'm dreaming but maybe I'm not!
Lunch was fabulous. All the food here is amazing. The rooms here (at the Grand America Hotel) are amazing...huge with lots of marble and quite fancy. It feels so indulgent to have this big room all to myself.
After lunch I attending a workshop on creativity given by Karen Walrond and Justina Blakeney. This was probably the highlight of the trip for me. I took so many notes during this talk, really, really good stuff. Some of my favorite lines (which might not make much sense here out of context) were these:
"Children don't yet have the box that adults are always trying to think outside of."
"You can be the most creative individual on the planet but if you don't take action, it don't mean XXXX."
"Publish. Push stuff out. Be prolific. Don't overthink it. Boom, boom. Next. Get in a rhythm."
"Honor where ideas come from."
"Creativity is collective."
The last workshop I attended was on branding and given by Jasmine Star. My favorite thing she said was "failure is feedback."
The closing keynote was given by Elle Luna. She is a really great speaker and storyteller. They also announced that the next Alt will be in Palm Springs at the Ace Hotel. That sounds pretty good to me.
I don't know if these posts were interesting but they were totally worth it for me. It made me go back through all my notes. I looked up the websites of all the presenters and checked out their blogs. It was a really great way to wrap it all up. Now I just have to take action on all the ideas I have now!
