I'm currently taking an observational drawing class from my friend Lori of Project Based Homeschooling. About a week ago I told her how excited I was about the class and she responded with "but you're a super-drawer, what are you doing taking this class?!" After two days of her class, I think I can better answer that.
- It's fun to get an assignment. I no longer have to think of what to draw or how to draw it. Someone is telling me what to do! I just have to do it.
- It's nice to read how someone else does things. I'm sure there's hundreds of ways to draw. It's fun to see what she suggests and what parts she thinks are important. She's really good at putting into words some of the thoughts that go through my head when drawing. She also explains about how my brain is trying to sabotage me.
- It's fun to be a part of a community who are all working toward the same goal. Everyone is supportive and doesn't take this stuff too seriously.
A few months ago I took Lisa Congdon's drawing class at Creativebug and I so enjoyed that. I'm having a great time in Lori's class this week. It's been a great reminder for me to take time to learn from someone else, especially those that I really respect.
