I waited many weeks for it to be my turn to borrow Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life from the library and it was so worth it. This is probably one of those books that I should buy and keep on the shelf for inspiration. Confession: With art books, I usually just look at the pictures but I read every word of this book. There's only about 30 pages of text but it's great interview.
"I'm still able to make the kind of connections that create ideas. I like connections with things and titles and words. For me that's what it's all about: the connecting to two things or two ideas that never seemed to connect before, and make something new out of it--which I think is the definition of creativity. Whether you're a scientist or anybody else, if you take two disparate ideas and make them have some relationship, you've created something new." -Charley Harper
"What advice would you offer people who want to live the life of an artist?"
"Do whatever work attracts you, do it as well as you can and keep doing it, and something will happen sooner or later."
