Whah, whah....whah. I read two good books in May but I didn't read near as much as I planned. :( Now I'm a little behind on my yearly goal. I need a week of reading poolside to catch up!
In May, I read When Breath Becomes Air and A Year Without Mom, both memoirs. When Breath Becomes Air is probably the best book I've read this year, so good and so sad. Highly recommend.
I'm still surprising myself with how into graphic memoirs I am. I'm pretty sure I thought they'd lack story and the writing wouldn't be good. I was wrong. Often the story is so good that I forget to look at the pictures.
I'm 15 books into this year and these are the best of those 15:
- When Breath Becomes Air (best memoir)
- Rosalie Lightning (best graphic novel, though it's more of a graphic memoir)
- Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World (best non-fiction)
Onward! Hopefully June will be a better reading month. Oh and by the way, this month I'll be rereading Austin Kleon's Steal Like an Artist and hosting a book club over at a year of creative habits. It's an easy book that's chocked full of ideas for creative work. Hope you'll join us.
