This Fursday meet Rebel Art. He's an 8 year old black lab. He's good with other dogs, cats, and kids. He had a home but after being passed around for awhile he was left without an owner, and that's how he ended up at Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary.
Some dogs take longer to adopt. Sometimes there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it but there are certain kinds of dogs that research has shown take longer. Those are seniors, special needs dogs, and black dogs.
Shelters call it Black Dog Syndrome. "Black dogs get euthanized at higher rates. They linger at pounds and adoption agencies for longer than light-colored dogs, and they are less likely to find a home."
As an 8 year old black dog, it seems Rebel has two strikes against him already. When I look at Rebel, I see a handsome gray muzzle that tells me he may be older but he's also wiser. I see soft, sweet eyes just begging for a little attention.
A sweet old man dog might be the perfect match for your family. If slow morning walks and evening snuggles sound just right to you, get to Haven of the Ozarks and check out Rebel Art.
