I am super excited about 2017! I have so many ideas and plans that I'm a little worried I've overdone it.
I have a daily project, my #yearofcreativehabits project this year is the #deadartistssociety where each day I'll read/study just a little about an artist and take notes/sketch/collage in my sketchbook.
I have a weekly goal of one finished piece related to the artist I'm studying. I've set Friday's as my deadline day for these. They will likely be paintings mostly but I've a few other ideas for possibly printmaking, photography, and other experiments.
I also intend to keep up with my weekly life through my lens series. I'll share photos from the week and would like to include a portrait of each kid for hopefully a total of 50.
I have a monthly goal to create one large (2 feet minimum) piece also related to my artist study. This is probably the most terrifying and I've finally forced myself to begin this month's today.
Also I'll continue to share my monthly book reports. I've set a goal of 50 books again this year.
And this year I chose one little word. I began doing this in 2010 along with Ali Edwards. That year I chose the word SIMPLE. In 2011 it was FOCUS, 2012 LIGHT, and 2013 MORE. Then of course when I began a year of creative habits in 2014 I chose HABIT. Each year I enjoyed letting one little word guide me. In 2015 I chose BELIEVE but it was different. That year it didn't take; I guess it wasn't the right word for me at that time. So in 2016 I didn't do it. Now I'm back.
This year I chose the word QUALITY. It's partly about my art but it's about so much more. I want less but better; I want QUALITY in my life. It's a bold word for me. I kinda feel snotty saying I want quality, like things aren't good enough for me. I'm not saying I have to have the best or I want the most expensive. I'm saying I want to give and get quality. Quality is something I care about, something I value. Ali encourages you to look up the definition of your word. Often you'll find new ways to apply it to your life. So here's some definitions of QUALITY that could apply to my year:
- peculiar and essential character
- an inherent feature
- capacity, role
- degree of excellence
- a distinguishing attribute
- vividness of hue
Ok, so it feels good to get these goals/intentions posted today. It's out there, sort of "official" now. I've a few others that I'll keep to myself for now and we'll just see what happens and how these intentions go and how this word "quality" guides me this year.
