Today has been one lucky day. It started out at 2:30 a.m. which was the time I needed to wake up, in order to make the drive to the airport for my 6 a.m. flight. I flew to Dallas where I attempted to do a watercolor painting at the airport while waiting for my connecting flight to Salt Lake City.
I could give you lots of excuses for why there's no painting today, like it was really crowded and I didn't have much water to work with but the real story is that there was a lot of fear. I was scared to do a painting in the middle of the airport where it felt like everyone was watching me, even though they were probably more interested in their phones. After over a year of this, I still struggle to paint in front of other people. So I chalked today up and chose it as one of my five skip days this year.
I arrived in Salt Lake City and got to baggage claim just in time to find my bag. It was at that moment that I realized that I left my laptop on the plane. Somehow I stayed calm and told the man at the information desk who directed me to the airline help desk. The airline guy told me a laptop had already been found and would arrive at baggage claim soon. In just a few minutes I was reunited with my laptop.
I'm in town to attend Alt Summit. That's a funny story itself. Early last week, I was telling my husband that Lisa Congdon is the keynote speaker at Alt this year. I said that if I'd known when tickets were on sale, then I'd have tried to get one as they are now all sold out. My husband (without me knowing) emailed the event coordinator and arranged to buy a ticket from someone that could no longer attend. He then surprised me with it for my birthday.
There's lots of events going on in Salt Lake City this week and the hotels are all booked up. Still in shock from the laptop situation, I casually asked the hotel staff at Alt if maybe someone cancelled their reservation today. And they had! Somehow I ended up with this beautiful, huge suite right here at the hotel where Alt Summit begins tomorrow. With Lisa Congdon. At 9 a.m. I am still in shock.
So there's no painting today but overall it was a pretty lucky day. Just remembering my mantra this year, progress > perfection. And pretty darn excited.
