Another good reading month! Eight books in August, six in September, and another six this month--I'm kinda surprising myself! Here's this month's list:
37 - On My Own Two Feet by Beverly Cleary
38 - Widow Basquiat by Jennifer Clement
39 - The Girls by Emma Cline
40 - If at Birth I Don't Succeed by Zach Anner
41 - Marbles by Ellen Forney
42 - What It Is by Lynda Barry
Only 8 more books to read in 2016 to reach my goal of fifty. It's funny, when the year began I wasn't going to set a goal. It didn't take me long to change my mind. I've been thinking a lot about this habit.
It has been very worthwhile to take the time to record (and number) the books I read throughout the year. For one, it helps me remember what I've read. I'm pretty terrible at remembering and then when someone asks me for a book recommendation my mind goes blank. This definitely helps. Second, it motivates me to keep up. If I don't read four books in a month, I'm very aware that I might not make 50 for the year. It pushes me to read more. And third, it makes me more aware of the kind of books I like and read. Before keeping track, I had no idea that I loved memoirs so much. This quickly became very apparent. I've also been surprised to see that I usually read more non-fiction than fiction. I never would have guessed that. The more I know about what I like, the easier it is to find new books to read.
It's pretty safe to say that I'll be reading (at least) 50 books again next year. And if you don't already, I'd tell you to start keeping track!
