A few weeks ago my daughter came home from school with this shirt. She's been wearing it nonstop ever since.
She's in first grade. On the front of the shirt, students were to write what job they wanted when they grow up. She wrote "artist Clara" and drew lots of pockets for all her tools and supplies. On the back, they were to write the "learner profile" words that they thought the job would require.
These "learner profile" words are words that they study throughout the year. They practice being reflective, being knowledge, etc. She's getting more and more familiar with what each of these words mean. She chose which words to put on the shirt and when she read them to me, I was amazed.
These are not the words that would have immediately come to mind had I been asked. She didn't write creative, because "everybody's creative, mom!" She didn't write skilled or talented. Instead she nailed it: reflective, knowledgeable ,risk taker, open minded, thinker, caring, balanced, principled.
Kids. This kid. She's always surprising me. And I'm always learning from her.
