I'm currently reading Mindset by Carol Dweck. It's a pretty fascinating book. Brain Pickings has a good summary of it here. According to Dweck there are two mindsets: fixed and growth. Apply these mindsets to creativity and you have these opposing beliefs:
- Creativity is static and inherent. (fixed mindset)
- Creativity can be developed through effort and deliberate practice. (growth mindset)
I think what I find so interesting thinking about the idea of a growth mindset is how that pairs with the identity-based habits idea and the fake it 'til you make it attitude. It's incredible how much of the creative process is mental.
