This weekend, I've been working on finishing things, getting to that 90% mark like I talked about the other day. I began the piece below about six weeks ago while studying Jean Michel Basquiat. I loved this painting of his and I thought that might be a good way to put together some of my morning sketches. I started by painting over an old piece with white acrylic. Then I added my sketches in pencil a few at time.
My thinking was to take time each week to add in the drawings. I kept up with that for a few weeks and then it sat untouched under my desk. Saturday I was determined to finish it. Once I sat down and really focused my time and energy on it, I was surprised at how quickly it came together.
I also framed up my favorite blind contour drawing from January. I plan to show both of these pieces next month in my local arts council show.
