As I said here one of my goals for 2014 is to read 50 books. It's 10.5 weeks into the year and I just finished book 10. My goal was to read about half fiction and half non-fiction. I like to have one of each going at the same time. Today I was surprised to find that I've read 7 non-fiction and 3 fiction books. Of those 7 non-fiction books, 4 of them were memoirs. I had no idea that I enjoyed memoirs so much but those have been my favorite ones.
I read Susannah Cahalan's Brain on Fire pretty quickly. I found it fascinating but probably wasn't the best choice to read while visiting someone in the hospital. Dani Shapiro's Still Writing is part memoir and part observations about the creative process. This was a slower read but I could relate to her 'perils and pleasures of a creative life.'
