I read 5 books in December for a total of 65 books this year. This month I reread Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. I didn’t like it as well the second time through. Sometimes I think it’s just not the right time to read a certain book but I’m not sure that idea works when rereading a book as I knew what to expect when I chose it. Do you reread books? Maybe rereading is better with fiction books… I’m not sure.
I also read One Hundred Demons by Lynda Barry. I loved it and I especially loved the idea. It would make a fun project to illustrate and tell the story of your own demons from the past.
A couple years ago a teacher recommended Sharon Draper’s book Out of my Mind to us. We all loved it so I was excited to get her new book, Blended, as soon as it came out. It’s very good and has really important topics for older kids (divorce, race, police brutality). I didn’t like it quite as well as Out of my Mind but I think we’ll be thinking about and talking about this book for quite some time.
The Girl Who Smiled Beads (like The Last Girl) is an awful story turned beautiful memoir. It thought it was a good and important read for better understanding what it’s like to be a refugee.
Last I read Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris. I didn’t like this one as well as Calypso but that chapter about the colonoscopy was worth reading the whole book!
