I had another Wednesday night at the Vandivort. My date had her first mocktail and it was her first time for a #hotelvandivortbathroomselfie.
He has his first overnight school trip next weekend. He'll need to wear a tie while he's gone so he's practicing. I'm playing around with camera angles.
The kids were out of school on Friday. Thad took Clara for a little breakfast date.
And then we went to Wonders of Wildlife. We had fantastic time. The kids took SO many photos. I still can't believe this is right here in Springfield.
George W. Bush's series Portraits of Courage are currently on display at Wonders of Wildlife. I have mixed feelings about George as an artist (and Jim Carrey) but I was pleasantly surprised by the exhibit. I enjoyed it.
"In the spring of 2012, after reading Winston Churchill's essay "Painting as a Pastime," President Bush decided he would try his hand at painting. "Even though I was active in the post-presidency, President Bush says, "I was antsy. I figured that if painting had sated Churchill's appetite for learning, I might benefit from it as well."
So he hired an instructor and practiced for two years. Then he worked with an art professor to learn color and the impasto technique. A third instructor encouraged him to "paint people you know but others you don't" and that led to this series. Learning the background behind the series and seeing his humility about it all made me really like it. And he has a really great color sense. The lighting in the exhibit could have been better though. :(
We finished the week up at the new brewery across the street from our house. (This could be dangerous.)
