I read 6 books in November and that makes 60 for the year so far. One more month to go!
Book 55 was The Last Girl: My story of captivity and my fight against the Islamic State. This is really a horrific story but a good, important book. I learned a lot. The last line of the book explains the title: “…I want to be the last girl in the world with a story like mine.”
Book 56 Calypso by David Sedaris and a nice, light follow up to the previous book. I laughed and read parts aloud to whoever was in the room. I really enjoyed it. I’ve got another David Sedaris book in my queue.
I was browsing the “new books” shelf at the library and saw this little paperback with a beautiful cover. Book 57 was Ayiti by Roxane Gay. I’m not usually into short stories but this was good and made me want to try a longer Roxane Gay book.
Book 58 was Sara Berman’s Closet and I adored this book! I mean it’s Maira Kalman so I knew I’d like it but I think this is her best book yet. This spread with the watches set to the three times made me gasp.
This page sums up the book beautifully:
Book 59 was The Animators. I really enjoyed how the creative process was described and the close relationship between the two main characters. The book took a turn that I didn’t really like but I know authors have to go there because life goes there. :(
And my last book this month was Elevation by Stephen King. I’m not a big Stephen King fan but my husband is. I picked this book up for him and when I saw it was so small and short, I thought I could read this in a couple days. So I did. It was weird as you’d expect but it was ok.
So 60 books in 11 months. I looked back at January and discovered that I set the goal of 72 books this year. Whoops, I forgot about that. I don’t think I’ll quite make 72 but I still read a lot of books this year. I’ll just see where I end up.
