I was challenged by my friend Beverly to try a creative pursuit that appealed to me but I hadn't tried before. I thought about that idea for while and the thing that came to mind was sewing and embroidery. I had seen the work of Sarah Walton and Ana Teresa Barboza and I really liked the idea of turning one of my drawings into an embroidery.
I thought about it for about a week and it was on my to do list for awhile with no action. One day my mom was here visiting and we were in a craft store and I thought...now! I asked her to help me get the right supplies and I got started on it the next day. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. It was a lot of fun. I knew very little about embroidery (and still don't know much!) I watched this sampler embroidery video at creativebug to help me with the basics and that gave me enough confidence to get going. I found the whole process very relaxing and addictive. Next I want to tackle the sewing machine. (It scares me a bit.)
Is there a creative pursuit that appeals to you that maybe you've been hesitant to try? I challenge you to give a try.
