I had in the back of my head that I'd participate in Beverly's Craft Friday today. She gave really good advice last week to plan ahead and buy supplies for today. We've all been sick around here and between not feeling well myself and taking care of a sick kid, I didn't make it out to buy anything. I could've figured something out with the things I had but what I really felt like doing this morning was making a pie.
We had our (immediate) family Thanksgiving yesterday. My kids aren't really into traditional Thanksgiving foods so for dessert we had chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins per their request. Today before Thanksgiving #2 with my husband's side, I decided to make French silk pie for our Thanksgiving #3 with my side of the family tomorrow.
I like to cook. My husband and I often cook together, each taking on our roles. I usually take food prep and clean up, maybe cook a side dish. My daughter and I bake something together almost every Friday. It's something she's really interested in and I try to use that time to squeeze in a little extra teaching/learning time with her. So I cook often but it usually feels a bit like chaos.
Today, I was really excited to have a few hours in the kitchen alone. I listened to my music. I took my time and enjoyed it. I measured and I took photos. I cleaned as went along. I really just enjoyed the process. I've made this pie before but this was my first time making it with a stand mixer and that made it 10 times easier. (Thanks Mom!)
And of course I had to play around with slo-mo on my phone!

If you're interested, the recipe is here. Tonight I'm making the whipped cream and I'll be sure to take a pic tomorrow when it's plated. :) A pie is so much better than a coupon code today, isn't it?
