If you subscribe to my newsletter or have just been reading here for awhile you might know that there's a year of creative habits Facebook group. Recently we had an art exchange. Beverly randomly paired us up and then we swapped art. Here's a look at the piece that I made for the swap.
I was paired up with my friend Dawn. Since I know she reads the blog, I didn't want to send her something I'd already made. I wanted it to be more of a surprise. I also know Dawn likes birds so I chose an old sketch of this one-of-a-kind rooster from awhile ago. I started sketching and painting and then decided to add in the other two chickens to bring out just how unique the rooster guy is. I titled it 'be you' and wrote that on the back. I wrapped it in a batik that I made a long time ago and could never figure out what to do with. Dawn does amazing things with fabric and thread so I know she'll find something really cool for it.
And this is the piece I received from Dawn. I love it! She also included a post card of a Joseph Cornell piece. She wrote a really sweet note and she has the most beautiful handwriting. Everything was put together so well. [It really made me rethink my own packaging skills! I forgot to include a note in mine, duh!]
It was such a fun exchange. We should definitely do again next year!
