I just finished book number fifteen for the year. It feels good to be all caught up and on track to reach my goal of fifty books. After reading The Old Man and the Sea, Thad suggested that I try The Pearl by John Steinbeck for another quick win.
About 12 years ago when Thad and I were first married, we were visiting my grandma. My grandma wasn't much of a talker, my husband is very much a talker. They were both big readers so Thad got her talking about her favorite books. They talked about the classics and when she discovered that he'd never read any Steinbeck, she recommended several for him to read. Pretty soon, he read them all and he too became a big fan of Steinbeck. This was my first Steinbeck book and so I felt a special connection to them both reading it.
I followed that one up with The Year My Mother Came Back. I wasn't too sure about that one at first, I mean it's about the author's dead mother visiting her, but pretty soon I couldn't put it down.
I also ran across these two beautifully illustrated books that I'm really enjoying, They have inspired me to get back to drawing in my sketchbook. And my new Koi brush markers have made it pretty fun too. We're starting up a sketchbook happy hour on Fridays over on Instagram if you'd care to join us.
