It's been one month since we moved. That doesn't seem possible! Of course there's still boxes to unpack and curtains to buy and furniture for a couple of rooms and, and, and....
Some days I start unpacking or arranging and I have a hard time stopping myself to do my creative work. Other days I focus too much on all the things that still need to be done around here instead of just taking a moment to enjoy what IS done, what IS here.
Recently I picked up the camera and took some shots of things around the new place...things I like, things that are different, things that are in progress.
We lived in a duplex before. We had one window on the east side, one on the west side, several on the south side, none to the north because that was the wall that was shared with the neighbor. It's really nice to have windows facing all four directions. It's really nice not to share a wall with a neighbor. It's really nice to come home and see my Hank waiting in the window for me. (Since this photo the windows got a fresh coat of paint.)
The first room to get unpacked and arranged was the kitchen. It's nice to stand at the sink and look out over the yard. The kids have played soccer out there almost every day after school since we moved. I love that.
Our walk to school is slightly different and a little longer. I've loved looking at everything in bloom. I'm especially noticing shadows and silhouettes lately.
The dogs are really enjoying the windows too and they find all the good sunny spots to nap.
They also like to sit here and look out the front door and bark at all the dogs, people, and cats that go by. Hank finds babies in strollers especially threatening and is sure to alert us.
Mostly the dogs have only gotten to enjoy the yard while on leashes. Our fence is going in this week and we are looking forward to watching them zoom around the yard.
I found this vintage desk in the basement and brought it up to E's room. And then this is a peek into the upstairs bathroom. It's looking almost finished.
I love the front porch. We eat dinner out there often and when it's warm enough (and I'm up early enough) I'll take my coffee out and sit for a few minutes alone before the kids wake up.
We are even closer to my favorite little coffee shop and I've popped over there several times already. Today I made a French silk pie. Home feels like pie and fresh whipped cream with coffee.
And finally my studio is starting to come together. This is life around here lately.
