Last year I painted a dog every Thursday for the Fursday project. I alternated between two local rescue groups--Rescue One and Haven of the Ozarks. It was a really fun project. I got to practice painting dog portraits and learned a lot about rescue along the way.
Each week I fell in love; each one became my baby. I remember every single one's name and story. I celebrated when they got adopted. I noticed when they didn't. My heart sank when some were returned.
One year later, I'm pretty amazed at just how many of them are STILL waiting. Of the 50 that I painted, these nine still need a home:
There's also many that I didn't paint, that one year later are STILL there waiting too. :( Today I looked at the updated photos. I took a few moments and scribbled some sketches of them. Some people might say a little prayer, I look into their eyes and draw them. I hope it helps in some way.
