There's a perception that artists are weird and that art is exciting and edgy. Maybe artists get included in the rock star image of sex, drugs, and rock & roll. Really I think most people who are creating consistently live a pretty boring life. Mason Currey wrote an interesting book called Daily Rituals. He researched artists, writers, and other creatives and then wrote about their daily lives. A main theme I found throughout the book is that most of those people did the same things every single day. Their routines helped them create and be successful. Their lives were far less exciting than one might imagine. Austin Kleon says "Be boring. It's the only way to get work done." Today is boring and routine. Today I'm getting work done. And that makes me very happy.
