Last year, (some time?) I had this thing going that I called "finish it Friday" where I'd try to finish up all my paintings from the week and get them wired, sealed, signed, titled, etc. It was a really great way to wrap up the week and I wonder whatever happened to that?!
Today I had my first #finishitfriday (it's pretty fun as a hashtag) in a long while! It was a perfect day for it since it's not only Friday but a new month and the halfway point of the year. All of the new monthly content is up over at ayearofcreativehabits.com and it just felt like a good day to take a deep breathe and tie up loose ends.
Some of the things that made me weirdly happy today-->getting all the random files off my desktop and in folders, emptying my trash can, going through notes and photos on my phone, looking at an old note to self and discovered I'd done 3/5 things on there, and inbox zero baby!
I had a couple paintings to box up for delivery. Did you know that if you submit a monday mourning to me and I paint it, I mail the painting to you for free?! Yup, so this is going out to it's new owner.
And then I boxed up that landscape painting above. Last year I painted several of these landscapes and I really loved them. With this one leaving me today, all but two have sold. I'm thinking that means it's time to start another series of them. Most of next week I'll be camping on the Current River and that'll be a great time to gather some reference photos.
Also today I gessoed over some old paintings and sanded off some others. That's one of my favorite things about painting on wood panels, being able to sand off a "failure."
Of course not everything's finished. There's plenty of works in progress. Still, it feels good wrapping up the week this way. Gotta do it more often.
