This month's #LetteringPortfolio assignment is package design. Each week is a different package: jar, can, coffee cup, paper bag. With just one week for the assignment, I didn't overthink it. My daughter eats toast with blackberry jelly every single day. We used to buy this jelly that had a bear on the label. (Bear is our nickname for her.) I haven't been able to find that brand for awhile now and I can't even remember the name, just that it had a bear on it.
So I thought I'd make a bear label to slip over our current jelly jar. I made a few bear sketches and then cut out a stencil to make a simple bear face. I made copies of that bear and practiced the lettering on the copies. And then finally I added the lettering to the bear design and slipped it onto the jar.
The last #letteringportfolio assignment I did mostly digital but this one was very low tech, just used my printer as a copy machine. It was a fun project. I like how the bear turned out. There's a few things I'd do differently but I'll save those ideas for the next assignment, which is cans. Hmm, already got a few ideas for that one. You can join in with #LetteringPortfolio any time, details are over on Instagram.
