The other day I wrote about the awkwardness I experienced drawing around other people. This morning I experienced that same awkwardness alone in my own workspace. I thought it would be fun to take a video of my painting process. As soon as I began recording I could feel my muscles tense up. I hesitated with each little decision. What color to mix? Where to begin? I blocked in some circles in a transparent neutral color to get myself started and then I began laying in some stronger color. A few minutes into it, I began to question myself and the process. This was going terribly and now it's on video for all to see. I was constantly aware of the camera and couldn't fall into the zone.
Here's a little glimpse into my morning at about 16 times the speed:

I'm going to keep at it. Possibly I'll loosen up if I record myself more often and I hope that leads to being more comfortable drawing and painting around others. I'll also work on improving my video skills. It only took me about 3 hours to get this video ready to upload! :)
P.S. Have you ever noticed that the word awkward looks a bit awkward?
