Yesterday I finished up my research of Mary Blair. Several artists that I admire listed her as their favorite artist so she was a great one to study. I began my research way back in July, then kinda lost my focus. It feels good to get my notes in my notebook and now I feel like I can move on to another branch of my creative family tree.
As I said before, I prefer using books to do the majority of my research. The book below A Mary Blair Treasury of Golden Books is excellent. The book only has a few pages of text and is mostly her artwork. To read a little more about her background, I started with Wikipedia for the overview and then the Magic of Mary Blair to go a little deeper.
other artists in my creative family tree are:
- Romare Bearden
- Keith Haring (and sketches here and here)
- Paul Klee (and my notebook here)
- Jean Michele Basquiat (also here and here)
