I've been working on this creative family tree project off and on for over a year now. One of my favorite parts of it is taking notes in my sketchbook. I usually print out a few favorite pieces from the artist and glue them down. Then I jot down notes and doodles. If I have more than will fit on the page I make a little flip up card so I can include more art underneath.
With some of the artists I have made a larger painting based on a piece that I felt particularly drawn to. Last year I made this drawing/painting based on Basquiat's Pegasus. It was really fun and led to another similar piece but in color.
I'm having so much fun with it but as I said on Instagram today, I'm in that stage between "this is going to be epic!" and "this is going to be an epic fail!" while knowing that most likely it will fall somewhere in between . :)
